Latest Coaching Changes:

McNeese Cuts Ties With Price: McNeese State has fired coach Tic Price, a relatively late decision in the off-season as most students are preparing to return to campus. The Cowboys must now start a coaching search to replace Price, who led the team to a 74-68 in five seasons. Most schools that decide to remove their coaches because of poor performance do so shortly after the season ends -- and sometimes a few weeks before. The school declined to offer any details about its decision to fire Price. Price has also coached at New Orleans and Memphis. [7/31/06]

Delta Devils Go Green: Mississippi Valley State has named James Green as successor to former head coach Lafayette Stribling. Green had served as the head coach at Southern Mississippi for eight seasons, compiling a 123-109 overall record, and twice led the Golden Eagles to the NIT. He was the 1999-2000 Conference USA Coach of the Year, and has served as an assistant at Iowa State, Alabama and Texas A&M. [7/21/05]

Yarbrough Steps into Division I: Southeastern Louisiana officials filled the school’s vacant head coaching position by hiring Jim Yarbrough Jr. Yarbrough has coached Valdosta State for the past four seasons, guiding the team to a 97-42 record during that stretch. Southeastern Louisiana officials selected Yarbrough over former Southern Mississippi coach James Green and Roman Banks, an assistant at Southeastern Louisiana. Yarbrough replaces Billy Kennedy, who left the school to become an assistant to Frank Haith at Miami after Kennedy led the program to consecutive 20-win seasons. [6/24/05]

Hornets Tap Familiar Name: Alabama State named Lewis Jackson as its new head coach, bringing him back to where he played his college ball. Jackson graduated in 1984 and has been an assistant at the school since 2001, helping them to become a consistent contender in the SWAC as they have won two tournament championships in that time. He replaces Rob Spivery, who resigned to take the head coaching position at Southern. [6/16/05]

Howard Names New Top Bison: Howard University has hired Penn assistant Gil Jackson as its next men's basketball coach. Jackson has been an assistant at Penn under Fran Dunphy for the past 16 seasons, and was also the head coach at Sanford School in Delaware for eight seasons. Howard finished 5-23 last season (2-16 in the MEAC), leading to the dismissal of head coach Frankie Allen on March 9th. [6/06/05]

Kennedy Leaves Southeastern Louisiana: Southeastern Louisiana head coach Billy Kennedy has announced his resignation in order to take the associate head coaching position at Miami (Fla.). Kennedy led the Lions to the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance last season with a 24-9 record. Kennedy had a record of 80-94 in six seasons in Hammond. [5/27/05]

Herrion Named Head Coach: New Hampshire has announced the hiring of Bill Herrion as head coach of the Wildcats basketball program. Herrion, who was recently fired as head coach at East Carolina, returns to the America East where he had much success as the head coach of then league member Drexel, leading the Dragons to a 167-71 record from 1991-1999. Herrion left his new position as associate head coach at Arkansas after only two month to take this position. Herrion also has experience as an assistant at Boston University and George Washington in the late 80's. [5/26/05]

Delta Devils' Stribling Retires: Mississippi Valley State head coach Lafayette Stribling has announced his retirement. After coaching in the high school ranks for 26 years, Stribling took over the Delta Devils program in 1983, and amassed a 315-207 record in 22 seasons. He took the team to three NCAA Tournaments. A university spokesman stated that a replacement should be hired by mid-June. [5/23/05]
